Keynote Speaker

Prof. Jerry Chun-Wei Lin, Silesian University of Technology, Poland
Fellow of IET (FIET), ACM Distinguished Scientist and IEEE Senior Member
Topic:  Explainable AI for Analyzing Online Behavior: A Clickstream Perspective
Abstract:  To improve digital platforms, it is important to understand how people behave online, e.g. what they click on, where they hesitate and what ultimately leads to a purchase or abandonment. In this talk, I will present our recent work that aims to make clickstream prediction models not only accurate, but also understandable for data scientists and decision makers. It will then introduce a method called HUSPM-SHAP that allows us to figure out which sequences of user actions are actually most important for predictions. Instead of treating all clicks equally, we focus on the most informative ones by using ideas from utility mining and model explanation (SHAP values). This helps to reduce the cost of labeling the data and base the model on meaningful patterns. Second, the SankeyX tool we developed is presented as a visual framework that combines click behavior, prediction results and business value in a flowchart. It allows us to understand how certain patterns influence the model and, more importantly, whether these predictions are valuable or costly from a business perspective. Our goal is to bring clarity to the decision-making process, better understanding, clearer communication and smarter actions based on users’ actual online behavior.
